I would NOT recommend this pattern for a beginner or even a medium sewer. The instructions are horrible. I had to figure out how to assemble it just from past sewing experience.
I'm really impressed with how well you were able to pull it off! It's adorable!! I never tried the pattern myself for the same reasons you stated. The instructions were REALLY hard to understand. I thought that this was only because I am new to sewing though. I'm sorry the pattern was so hard to work from!
